Eyes Wide Shut – Festivalito 2015

A themed Argentine Tango festivalito inspired by mystery and romance

On February 14, 2015, the Philoprogos Union of Xanthi (FEX) hosted the themed festivalito “Eyes Wide Shut”, as part of the Xanthi Carnival festivities.

Dedicated to the art of Argentine Tango and the romantic atmosphere of Valentine’s Day, the event took place at the FEX Cultural Center, creating a setting of elegance, mystery, and refined aesthetics, with dancers embracing the concept through masks.

Tango, Mystery and Theatrical Atmosphere

The Eyes Wide Shut Festivalito marked one of the earliest themed festivalitos in the history of Tango Aires.

By combining social tango with theatrical elements, masked aesthetics, and a strong narrative identity, the event offered a holistic experience that went beyond the boundaries of a typical tango gathering.

Guest Artists

The festivalito featured internationally acclaimed tango dancers and teachers Ivon Carolina and Alejandro Palaiologos, known for their distinctive technique, expressive movement, and strong stage presence.

Their artistic contribution defined the character of the event, both through their tango performance and the educational program they delivered.

Workshops for All Levels

A series of specialized tango workshops were offered, open to dancers of all levels:

  • Foundations and structure of Tango Salon

  • Techniques of consecutive turns

  • Cadenas de Vals with ornaments for both leaders and followers

The workshops were designed to balance technical precision with artistic expression, reflecting the overall theme of the festivalito.
