TangoAires Festival Xanthi 2019 – 5th Edition

25-27 January 2019 (Xanthi)

The TangoAires Festival Xanthi 2019 – 5th Edition took place on 25–27 January 2019 in Xanthi, Greece, and became another warm and memorable chapter in the story of our community events. Built around the heart of social Argentine Tango, this festival brought dancers together through seminars, milongas, and shared moments that stayed alive far beyond the last tanda.

Our guest teachers for this edition were Lucas Gauto and Naima Gerasopoulou. Below you can watch video highlights from their show, and explore a rich photo gallery with moments from the seminars and the milongas of the festival.

Guest Teachers: Lucas Gauto & Naima Gerasopoulou

Naima Gerasopoulou discovered dance at a very young age, starting with classical ballet and rhythmic gymnastics at a competitive level, while also exploring different styles over the years. When she first encountered tango, however, she fully dedicated herself to it.

In 2014, she won 1st place at Tango Acropolis (Mediterranean & Eastern Tango Championship) in the category Tango de Pista. Since then, she has performed and taught in major events in Greece and abroad, sharing the stage and the dancefloor with some of the most respected names in the international tango scene.

Lucas Gauto started dancing tango at the age of 9 in Córdoba, Argentina. Over the years, he achieved important distinctions, including 3rd place at the World Tango Championship in Buenos Aires in the category Tango Pista, and 1st place at the Metropolitano Buenos Aires in the categories Vals and Milongueros del Mundo.

He has taught in tango schools and milongas in Córdoba and Buenos Aires, including La Viruta, and has danced in some of the most iconic milongas and festivals in Argentina and Europe alongside outstanding Argentine maestros.

Their journey as a couple began in August 2015 in Argentina. Together, they achieved 9th place in 2017 and 17th place in 2018 at the Mundial del Tango in Buenos Aires in the category Tango Pista. They have also performed in major theatres in Greece, including Pallas and Herodion.

Their teaching and dance are rooted in a deep understanding of tango, body awareness in movement, and a sincere respect for the culture and traditions of Argentine Tango.

Update: The couple continued gaining international recognition, winning 4th place at the Mundial de Tango 2019.

Seminars & Milongas

The festival included tango seminars focused on technique, connection and musicality, as well as milongas where dancers could relax, enjoy the music and turn the learning into real social dancing.

For us, tango is not only something you study, it’s something you live. And the dancefloor is where everything becomes real.
